The Hub Gymnastics Club was established in 1985 by volunteers and was located at the Aberfoyle Park Recreation Centre (The Hub). Gordon Sykes was approached by the centre to start the recreation program and later founded the competition club as Head Coach & Judge.
Within a few years the club amalgamated with the YMCA who managed the recreation centre and ran a recreation gymnastics program to become known as the Hub YMCA Gymnastics Club. Volunteers coached and managed the operations of the competition group and the recreation program was supervised by the YMCA with senior competition gymnasts giving back to their club and community by coaching the recreation stream.
The YMCA lost the management contract for the centre in 2003. The club continued to operate and formed a not-for-profit self-managed committee to run all the operational and strategic areas of the club. A good working relationship was formed between the club management committee and the new centre management (CASA Leisure) that lasted for over 10 years.
In 2013 the centre again changed management which saw the club undertake a mutual break with the YMCA and the club became a self-incorporated body and relocated to Cosgrove Hall at Clovelly Park.
After several years in discussion with the City of Onkaparinga the club returned to the area at a new location, The Hill Recreation Centre. In 2022 the facility was renamed The Paul Murray Recreation Centre in honour of Paul’s significant contribution to the Club and the Onkaparinga community.
In 2025 the Club return to the redeveloped Paul Murray Recreation Centre after a 12 month period at Noarlunga Centre. We appreciate the funding support from State, Federal and Local Government and of course the commitment of our Committee, Volunteers, Staff and Members. We are very grateful to our driving force, Club Head Coach, Emma Murray.
All these changes have been with the intent of us working towards our vision of providing the best support to our gymnasts and the best opportunities for our club and community to grow.
Hub Gymnastics Club is known for its quality of our coaches, our training programs, our encouragement of parent involvement and our commitment to providing the safest environment possible.
We are confident that our gym sport programs help develop skills at varying levels for our community members that provide foundation skills for all other sports and throughout their lives. We are very fortunate to have been awarded Gymnastics South Australia “Club of the Year” in 2013, 2019 and 2021.
